Commentary:
Frank's Auto Glass is off to the side of things, kind of hard
to find. It needed something to draw attention to it. Frank hired
Tish Noel, an art student at the Chicago Art Institute, to solve
the problem and she did by covering acres of drab fencing with
words, colors and pictures to force people to notice Frank's.
Frank's really has reached to the limits of home-grown advertising
art, but he doesn't go too far. It is attractive without being
gaudy, and the advertising doesn't take too much precedence over
the art.
The work also shows how much the graffiti approach has reached
into general use. It is not spray can art, but it has much of
the feel (and appeal) of a graffiti mural.
