Twelve Doorways of Perception

Artist: Organized by Higher Gliffs

Commissioned by: Higher Gliffs with contributions from a number of local businessmen

Location: 47th and Lake park, north side of Metra Underpass

Medium: Murals

Commentary: Each of the murals along this impressive wall represent a different artist's spiritual quest. The styles are varied, from figurative like the meditative monk by Desie, a founder of Higher Gliffs, to the simple portrayal of geometrical shapes two panels east of it.

Higher Gliffs is a group that has organized the painting of major murals not only in Chicago but throughout the country and even in Europe and South America. Those across the underpass are also by Higher Gliffs, as is the impressive Tribute to Harold Washington at 57th and Harper.
