Geoffroy's table
University of Chicago Special Collections Research Center
In 1718, Mémoires de l'Académie Royale des sciences published Étienne François Geoffroy's "Table of different relationships observed in chemistry amongst different substances." Long before Mendeleev's periodic table of elements, chemists tried their hand at systematically arranging chemical "substances" in a table as a means of better understanding and representing chemical relationships.
