The Lakeside Club, northeast corner Grand Boulevard and 42nd Street, c. 1910. One of Grand Boulevard's most important Jewish institutions, the Lakeside Club was designed by Solon Beman in 1893. Located in the midst of the expanding Black Belt, the club was destroyed by arsonists in 1924 shortly after it was sold to the Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church. [C.R. Childs, Courtesy G. Schmalgemeier]
