The Institute of Museum and Library Services is an independent federal
agency that fosters leadership, innovation and a lifetime of learning.
IMLS supports all types of museums, from art and history to science
and zoos, and all types of libraries and archives, from public and
academic to research and school. IMLS expands the educational benefit
of these institutions by encouraging partnerships.

Oriental Institute
- The Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago is a research
institution, with a museum, devoted to the study of the ancient
Near East. The Oriental Institute Museum houses a world-renowned
collection of artifacts from ancient Syria, Israel, Persia, Anatolia,
Egypt, and Mesopotamia. The new Edgar and Deborah Jannotta Mesopotamian
Gallery is open to the public and exhibits some of the finest artifacts
of this ancient civilization.

Chicago Web Docent
- Chicago WebDocent (CWD) is a collaboration among seven Chicago
cultural institutions, the Chicago Public Schools, and the University
of Chicago to develop curriculum materials utilizing the collections
of the museums. The collaboration brings together the experience
of Chicago Public School teachers, the curriculum development expertise
of the University of Chicago, and the extensive resources available
at the museums. CWD curriculum materials have a common "look
and feel," and include engaging activities with embedded assessments
designed to help students meet the State of Illinois Learning Standards.
CWD has worked with the OI to develop interactive content that explores
the lives of ancient Egyptians. Get a hands-on lesson in how to

eCUIP, The Digital
Library Project - The eCUIP Digital Library Project, an
initiative of the Chicago Public Schools|University of Chicago Internet
Project, is a collaboration between the University of Chicago and
the Chicago Public Schools to provide high-quality digital resources
to the K—12 educational community using the content expertise
of University of Chicago scholars, the development skills of the
University Library’s Digital Library Development Center, and
the experience of CPS educators. The digital library Web site includes
Ancient
Egypt materials digitized in collaboration with the
OI and the Chicago Media Initiatives Group.
