Greater St. Titus Church

Artist: Flournoyd Brown

Commissioned by: Greater St. Titus Church

Location: 649 E. 63rd Street

Medium: Advertising Art

Commentary: This very simple but eloquent work is on the side of a small church in Woodlawn. It is advertising art rather than religious art, trying to let you know about the place more than to express a religious feeling, but it does that well.

Have you ever seen those hands before? Flournoyd Brown is a young l mural artist who has works all over the city. He is self-taught who has learned most of his technique from studying the classics of the Renaissance. The hands are something loves and found in a classic work of art.

Mr. Brown has serious intent in his advertising art. He hopes it can be a way of beautifying and revitalizing the South Side. Undoubtedly, he is correct--such works add tremendously to any neighborhood.
