Commentary:
At first this looks like a confused jumble of metal poles. To
understand it, though, think what the poles would look like if
they were really just thrown in a jumble. By making the comparison,
you see that this has order and planning. There is a balance,
but it is uncertain. The poles rise from the ground where the
really confused jumble would stay. And they eventually straighten
themselves into upward positions. Maybe (and I am guessing as
much as you) it suggests the confusion from which forecasts and
understandings arise.
This piece might remind you of Joel Shapiro's "Untitled"
which is only steps away in the garden of the Smart Gallery. They
are made with similar metal posts and are kind of close to the
ground. This one seems more perplexing, though.
