Commentary:
This graceful figure is meant to represent the gentle saint who
is said to have been able to talk with the animals.
The sculptor, Alfeo Faggi, did a number of religious works in
Chicago, including the very beautiful Stations of the Cross inside
the St. Thomas Church on 55th Street.
Originally, the statue stood in front of a private chapel on
a farm owned by Dr. Lilly, the person who commissioned it. At
her death, the farm was given to Calvert House as a retreat center.
When the retreat center was sold, the statue was moved to its
present location
