Researching a topic for a class paper or project? Follow these steps to guide you through your research:





1:: SEARCH THE DIGITAL LIBRARY

Try searching other on-line encyclopedias for more information on your subject.  Try Encarta Online or Encyclopedia.com.
 
3:: ORGANIZE YOUR IDEAS
 

Visit the Paradigm Online Writing Assistant (POWA) now that you have collected some good materials.   POWA will guide you as you organize your ideas and materials and then write them down. 

Some other online resources you may find helpful are the Guide to Grammar and Writing and Strunk's The Elements of Style.

 
4:: DOCUMENT YOUR SOURCES
  You should always provide documentation when you quote or summarize another person's words or ideas.  Be sure to bookmark or record the URL for the sources you use to make this last step much easier. Citation Style Guides for Internet and Electronic Resources contains information for citing internet and other digital resources.

:: First you should choose a subject.
:: Write down specific questions and/or topics related to your subject that you would like to know more about.
:: As you begin your research, keep the paper with your notes on it close by the computer.
:: Depending on your subject you may need to make your search criteria more general, or more specific and your notes will help you either broaden or narrow your search.
