Continue north on Clark Street. At the northwest corner of Randolph
and Clark stands the 1.2 million square foot State of Illinois
Building. This Helmut Jahn design opened to much fanfare on
May 6, 1985. The huge rotunda and the large open spaces that include
office and retail space make this a unique structure. The building
is the home of over fifty state agencies. It includes three floors
of restaurants and shops, an art gallery, and a six hundred seat
auditorium. Tours begin at the information booth. Jean Dubuffet's
ten-ton white fiberglass sculpture. Monument With Standing Beast
stands at the main entrance.
