The ethnography exhibits by the south lagoon were
meant to support the Anthropology Building and to display the
dwellings
and daily life of the people and cultures on display. The hut
shown was supposed to represent a typical dwelling of the native
people of Guyana. The original inhabitants of Guyana were the
Arawaks and Caribs. Christopher Columbus sighted Guiana, as it
was originally called, in 1498 during his third voyage.
