The German Building faced the lake on the eastern
side of the fairgrounds. The building was colorful and widely
appreciated. Its bell tower featured very tuneful bells on loan
from the Church of Mercy in Berlin. Inside, visitors could see
religious figures, organs, candles, books, and listen to the
music of Handel, Bach, and Mozart.
