Race, Gender and Imperialism at the Fair Images

The photo
shows an exhibit by a Dutch diamond mining company that operated mines
in South Africa. This is an example of imperialism as the dutch established
a colony in South Africa in 1652. The photo is one of a few official images
of the fair that feature Africans in a contemporary context. Harris states
that you have to look at unofficial snapshots to see African Americans
that attended the fair.
