Burnham Plan Images

Louis Sullivan
designed the Transportation building shown above. He didn't approve of
Burnham's neoclassical style and even went as far as saying the fair would
ruin American cities for a generation. He felt that buildings shouldn't
be modeled after ancient styles, but that they should be more modern and
reflect the look of the new industrial age. He designed the Transportation
Building in a style that could be called Art Decco (a style that wouldn't
become popular until the 1920's and 30's).
