African Americans at the Fair Images
This is a
photo of an African Dahomean tribe that was on display at the fair. Frederick
Douglas, an important african american civil rights activist of the day,
was offended that the fair only focused on the accomplishments of white
europeans and americans. He felt that overlooking the accomplishments
of modern day men and women of african descent was racist, and he was
upset by the fact that people thought of africans as uncivilised savages.
