Commissioned
by: The Artists Themselves
Location:
57th and Harper, on external wall of Café Florien
Medium:
Mural
Commentary:
The largest graffiti style mural in our area, this
tribute to Harold Washington was organized by Desie (Sam Mulberry)
and painted mainly by Zore (Mario Gonzalez) and Raven (LaVie Raven).
The fine portrait in the center is by Rafa.
The work is quite innovative, using unusual lettering, some based
on Arabic forms. The train and street signs symbolize the respect
for Harold Washington throughout the city.
Two of the artists, Sam Mulberry and Mario Gonzalez later founded
Higher Gliffs which has carried out murals around the United States
and even in Europe and Brazil.
