Commentary:
Monarchy is the rule of a country by one person. From its name
we gather that this piece represents rule by two. Who are the
two? Two kings? Two Queens? Does it matter? Do you get a feeling
of power from the work? Kenneth Armitage was an English sculptor
who is said to have particularly liked the flatness of the ancient
art of Egypt and Cyprus. You have probably seen Egyptian art in
your classes, but for this one it might be more helpful to take
a look at the flat faced figures from ancient Cyprus.
