Commentary:
Modern sculpture is often meant to think and feel without giving
you a message. So what is there to think about here? The rather
small block of granite is high textured, not shiny at all. On
its smaller sides it has the heavy marks of the tools that took
it from the ground. On the front and back it has been crudely
worked with horizontal lines. You obviously will be allowed to
feel it, maybe even lean one it. It has not of the preciousness
of most works of art. It is almost but not quite like a stone
waiting to be made into a sculpture, rather than an actual sculpture.
What is the difference?
Jean Highstein who did this also did the "Black Sphere"
that stands outside the Brain Research Center just down the street.
Both works seem almost too plain to be art.
