Tilt
of the Waning Crescent
The phase of the moon known as the Waning crescent occurs when the last
light of the crescent moon descends over the horizon just before the sun
rises. Cultures such as the Ngas of Nigeria in Africa observe the
tilt of the waning crescent to tell them when the rainy season will come
and end. They use this knowledge to plant and harvest their crops.
