The illustration above was designed to give you an idea of how ancient
people might have determined that the planets move in different paths
than the stars. If you stood in the same spot facing the same direction
at the same time every evening, you would notice that the planets and
stars appear in a slightly different spot each night. If you marked where
each planet and star was night after night, you would be able to chart
their course across the night sky.
