On the night of January 8th, 1894, the Casino caught
fire. The fire quickly spread and destroyed the entire Peristyle
Gate and Music Hall. Much of the of the fair would suffer the
same fate the following July 5th when a fire set by arsonists
in the Train Station would take down the Administration, Agriculture,
Electricity, Machinery, Manufactures, Mining, and Transportation
Buildings.
