The women in this photo were dancers who performed
the Danse du Ventre at the
Street of Cairo Theatre. This style of dancing is very similar
to belly-dancing and caused a scandal at the fair; many thought
the dancing was too explicit. The cultural displays on the Midway
were often sensationalized views of the cultures. Some critics
argue that the fair exploited the cultures for entertainment
value.
