Granny's Deli

Artist: Kevin Wilson

Commissioned by: Granny's Deli

Location: 71st and Stony Island

Medium: Advertising Art

Commentary: People pay thousands of dollars to have slick advertisements painted for them. Granny probably would have done that, too, but she didn't have thousands of dollars. So she hired Kevin Wilson, and untrained neighborhood artist who does that kind of thing. Wilson's work isn't slick but it is creative and full of life. He has managed to turn a roast beef sandwich into a snorting bull. Compare it with "Moo", and the works of "Artistic Board up". They are truly art from within rather than outside the heart of the community.
