Commentary:
Like so much locally grown advertising art in the inner city,
this little picture shows energy and understanding. The importance
of the long right arm cannot be mistaken and is no more subtle
than the stop sign. The man is certainly not a model, with a beer
belly sticking out of a tight shirt, but he's a friendly fellow,
too, and probably a nice guy to meet in a bar.
Pictured against a bright yellow background the character is
lively, and more interesting than the well shaped and carefully
colored logos of Madison Avenue.
When asked about his sign, the owner of the Midtown Lounge admitted
he didn't remember the name of the artist. It was just a kid from
a nearby high school who evidently understood his clientele.
