Practice Wall

Artist: Higher Gliffs

Commissioned by: Sponsored by Higher Gliffs

Location: Alley just north of 53rd street between Kenwood and Kimbark, behind the 53rd Street Amoco Station

Medium: Mural

Commentary: In 1995 Sam Mulberry, with permission from the owners of Amoco, created a Hyde Park institution: the graffiti practice wall. Over the years, hundreds of graffiti writers have come to do serious work for fun and for a few weeks of fame. Then someone is bound to come and cover it up with his/her new work. Many of the best graffiti artists in Chicago have displayed here at one time or another.

The wall will come down soon as a new building is going to be built on the premises.
