Title: Always Excelling

Artist: Peter Calaboyias

Commissioned by: The University of the Aegean and the University of Cyprus, to commemorate the University of Chicago's 100th anniversary

Location: 5540 S. Greenwood, Smart Gallery

Medium: Stainless Steel

Commentary: The name, "Always Excelling", is in part a tribute to the University of Chicago which was celebrating its 100th anniversary when this gift was made. It comes from Greece. Once you know that you may see bright sun and dancing figures in it.

But if you didn't know it was from Greece, what thoughts would it create? It is most of all bright; could it make you think of two pieces of light? Probably not, because that comes from my head. What comes from yours?
