Title: Medici Facade

Artist: Walter S. Arnold

Commissioned by: Hans Morsbach -- Medici Restaurant Owner

Location: Medici Restaurant, 57th between Kimbark and Kenwood

Medium: Limestone

Commentary: The University of Chicago is the main institution in Hyde Park. Its buildings are of a design called "Gothic" and feature many amazing figures of small monsters called gargoyles.
Hans Morsbach's Medici is a playful joke on the University. Its gargoyles depict monsters--eating pizza! One of its sculptures seems to represent a medieval bishop, but the bishop is Hans Morsbach himself.
